It was the beloved English writer G.K. Chesterton who once observed that the critical thing is whether or not we take the turns of life for granted or with gratitude. thankful3.jpg
So, in that spirit, I’d like to share with you ten things I’m thankful for this year.
I would love to read your list, too.
1. I’m thankful for the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST … that He died for me – and you (!) and that He represents a power so awesome that its force cannot and will not be stopped on earth.
2. I’m thankful for the gift of LIFE … the good and the bad, the sickness and the health, the happy times and the tough seasons. Every moment is a miracle.
3. I’m thankful for JEAN … that the Lord blessed me with a wife of such noble character, dignity and devotion that it leaves me humbled and speechless. I cannot imagine my life without her.thankful4.png
4. I’m thankful for TRENT and TROY … our boys are bright lights, curious about everything and wonderful company to be with; how fun to watch them grow up and grow closer to God!
5. I’m thankful for my BROTHERS and SISTERS … you can choose your friends, but not your siblings. We share a history and a heart for one another. Life took us in different directions but we remain close.
6. I’m thankful for living in a country with FREEDOM … partisanship aside, I’ve been all around the world and encountered oppression. Though things aren’t perfect here, I’m grateful to live “here” and not “there.”
7. I’m thankful for the spirit of ANTICIPATION … I love looking forward to holidays, camping trips and special times with the family. It adds sweetness to life.
8. I’m thankful for LAUGHTER … can you imagine going through life without humor? Sadly, some people do!
9. I’m thankful for the emotion of PASSION … it gets me out of bed in the morning, to know that the Lord loves me as though I was the only person on earth and that He has called us to serve as His hands and feet this side of heaven. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to serve on the team here at Focus and advance His priorities with your help.
10. I’m thankful for the command to be a Christian of GOOD CHEER … “In this world ye shall have tribulations, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Life may not always go according to our ideal, but Jesus has His hand on the wheel. There is no need to be cranky and grumble our way through it all.
That’s my list, though there are so many more items. How about yours?
From the Dalys and the entire team here at Focus on the Family, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (1 Chronicles 16:34).

Yes, Jim, we are thankful to God for this nation. I lived in another continent for many years while on a mission. If one is not in the grace of God, the conditions there can drive you to a feeling of apathy and and hopelessness. You have no real freedom to express your Biblical view in public as you ought due to fear of reprisals, etc. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WE THANK GOD FOR THE ROLE-MODELS LIKE YOU, JIM. THE WORLD IS IN DIRE NEED OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU.

Hi...Is it JUST ME, or is it a challenge to; "be of good cheer" as a Christian? I have a loving family, food, shelter, heated water, clothes, a place to lay my head, etc, etc, etc. Yet when I watch or listen to the daily news, it sure does not help me to "be of good cheer". In fact, this World is evil beyond measure. While I'm sipping my coffee and eating a Bear Claw, people are being murdered, tortured, beaten, commiting suicide, lying, stealing, and doing even more evil and heinous things, NON STOP. Yes, this SHOWS that all humans NEED to repent of their sins, and need Jesus as their Savior and God. That being said, how are WE, God's children, supoosed to "be of good cheer" with all this horribleness going on all around us? In my life, I have mostly been a 'glass half full' kind of person. Make no mistake, I have had my own trials and tribulations and been in a place more than once where I felt a rope around my neck was the best way to deal with life on planet Earth. Yet Jesus through The Holy Spirit has guided me through those times of 'The Valley of The Shadow of Death'. Notice, not THE Valley of Death, just The Valley of The 'Shadow' of Death. Part of me is grateful that Jesus saved me from taking my own life, and the other is resentful that I could not take my own life and be with Him, and be off this 'Mankind Forsaken' planet called Earth. Yet I know that 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says 19 "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." Bought at a price, what price? Think about it, God Himself, coming to planet Earth, being born as a man, just like us so that we could never say; "You don't know what it's like being one of us, being a human!" Yes, yes He does. Jesus knows what it's like to be one of us, to live a perfect sinless life among us, to be rail-roaded, to be falsely accused, tortured and murdered on a Cross of Death with the specific purpose of dying as YOUR sacrificial lamb. I KNOW that when I repented and received God's Salvation through Jesus Christ, God's Only Begotten Son, that HE had saved me, that HE redeemed me, that HE was now my God, my Savior, my Everything, and that my life would never be the same. I don't care about 'Streets of Gold or Mansions in Heaven', I don't care about sitting next to Christ Jesus like the apostles argued about, I just want to be WITH Him. Everything else is window dressing, everything else is literally CRAP. For me, the only thing that brings me 'good cheer', is the very thought of being with Him, everything else pales and is of no interest to me. "Dear Father God...King Jesus...Holy Spirit, please help us Your children to seek You in Spirit and in Truth, moment by moment, and in doing so, THIS will help us to 'be of good cheer'." With Thanksgiving two days away and Christmas about a month away, I pray and Hope, in Him, that we, His children, will rest in Him, knowing that, come what may, He will NEVER leave us, nor forsake us. I look forward to meeting Jude someday, as his words help me to 'be of good cheer'...Jude's Doxology- 24 "To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen." All God's blessing to my brothers and sisters everywhere in Jesus Christ The Lord, always.

I am thankful for so many things.  I am thankful fo the hope that I have in Jesus Christ.  That hope changes everything.  I am also thankful for Jesus' precious gift of peace.  A peace I can enjoy in the midst of the turmoil and hardships. I am thankful for God's word, where I can read about His promises and learn them and cling to them.  I am thankful God hears my prayers and answers them.  I am thankful God is a loving, generous Father.  He has given me so much- a wonderful husband, three children (that the medical profession said I'd never have!).  I am thankful for each new day where I get a new chance to glorify God...

Amen to all of the items on Jim's list. I am so thankful for the joy, peace, love and contentment that is available to us as a child of God.  I am thankful for Christ's blood that cleanses me of all of my sin.  I am so thankful for God's beautiful, magestic creation.  I am so thankful that in everything the Lord said "give thanks" and He provides the way to do that.  I am so thankful the Lord knows just what I need and when I need it even when I am saying "no".  I am thankful I can call my Heavenly Father, Daddy and He calls me His child.
